HOW IS FRANKINCENSE ESSENTIAL OIL MADE?
Frankincense essential oil is made by harvesting the resin of the Boswellia tree, which are native to Oman, Somalia and Yemen. This process includes making precise incisions in the bark of the tree, releasing its milky, white sap. After a few weeks, the sap will harden into tear-shaped resin crystals, that are then carefully scraped off. To maintain the health of these Boswellia trees, it is important consider the number of incisions made into their bark since "over-tapping" them can be detrimental to their health. Therefore, each tree should be cut no more than 12 times per year.
Once the frankincense resin is extracted from the tree, it is then grinded into a fine powder by using a mortar and pestle or a coffee grinder works great too. Freezing the resin prior to grinding it, actually makes the grinding process easier. The powder is then combined with a carrier oil such as jojoba or almond oil, mixing one part resin powder to two parts carrier oil. The mixture then needs to be heated gently, preferably in a pot on low heat, and stirred frequently, and simmered for about a half hour to an hour.
Finally, the heated mixture is then slightly cooled and strained through a fine filter like a coffee filter or cheesecloth. After a day of the strained oil settling, the remaining sediment sinks to the bottom and the clear oil is carefully poured into airtight jars and stored in a cool dry place.
WHAT ARE THE COMMON USES OF FRANKINCENSE ESSENTIAL OIL AND HOW TO USE IT?
Frankincense essential oil is known to be used for its uplifting aroma, making for a relaxing atmosphere, while also providing skincare benefits, supporting the respiratory system and even enhancing mental clarity. This essential oil can also be used topically to assist in healing minor cuts and wounds, reducing appearance of scars and improving the overall complexion.
Aromatherapy
For aromatherapy, using frankincense essential oil is quite simple. All you need is an essential oil diffuser, which are usually pretty inexpensive, (you can find a nice one here at barefut.com) and a bottle of frankincense essential oil which you can also find on the barefut.com website. When using a diffuser, you will need to add 3 to 5 drops to diffuser filled with water and you're ready to begin your end-of-day relaxation, meditation or yoga session. The diffuser will disperse the oil particle throughout the room, providing your perfect, calming environment.
Aromatherapy Bath
Another way to use frankincense essential oil is by taking an aromatherapy bath, which is also a great way to reap the benefits of this powerful oil. Just mix a few drops, about 5 to 10, with a carrier oil, like jojoba, coconut or almond oil, and add the solution to warm bathwater. Soak in the warm, aromatic bathwater for 15 to 30 minutes and discover how great you feel afterwards.
Aromatherapy Massage
An aromatherapy massage is another fabulous way to use essential oils. This method is commonly used to soothe muscles and joints, while also contributing to relaxation. Just mixing 3 to 5 drops to your favorite all-natural carrier oil and massaging the diluted mixture into your skin can help reduce pain and stiffness anywhere on the body.
For Topical Skin Care
Frankincense essential oil is also a great remedy for healing acne and other skin conditions, creating a healthier, more vibrant complexion. Just apply 3 to 5 drops to your favorite all-natural lotion or even a carrier oil, and rub into desired areas of the skin, avoiding contact with eyes. It is recommended to always do a patch test on a small area of skin to ensure you do not have a bad reaction to the oil, which is very rare, but possible. It is also advised to consult your physician before using any essential oils.
Frankincense Essential Oil for Hair Growth and Thickening
Last, but not least, frankincense essential oil has been known to improve blood circulation when massaging a diluted mixture with coconut oil or jojoba oil into the scalp. This will ensure the deliverance of vital nutrients and oxygen to hair follicle, which drastically reduces breakage and hair loss. Leave in hair for an hour or so, then wash your hair with your favorite natural shampoo and repeat 2 or 3 times per week. You will soon discover a huge difference in the health of your hair and scalp.
